This is definitely a useful book. I would recommend it to residents and practicing radiologists looking for reference in Emergency/Trauma Imaging. The content is clear and concise. It discusses modern diagnostic approaches and intelligent selection of proper imaging tests. The section describing surgical expectations from radiologist represents major strength of the book. The text is well organized and contains multiple superb images.

Great selections. Excellent translation

The 24 selections of Ovid's Metamorphoses that Ted Hughes translated is so modern and orginal, after reading Tales from Ovid by Ovid, Ted Hughes, I wish Hughes had translated the entire epic.

Hughes is a brilliant poet and the way he wield words dazzled me for hours:

Then Narcissus wept into the pool.
His tears shattered the still shrine
And his image blurred.
He cried after it: "Don't leave me.
If I cannot touch you at least let me see you.
Let me nourish my starving, luckless love-
If only by looking".

Ted Hughes is at his best here in these tales from Ovid

Ted Hughes is at his best here in these tales from Ovid. They are not so much translations, as free-form adaptations, where the poet has loosed himself on Ovid's fecund material. The language is highly charged, and even Homeric in parts, for instance the Niobe chapter, would not look out of place in the Iliad. Highly recommended.

Architecture Students interested in Data Viz

I am a student of GSAPP at Columbia University. I took a course taught by Professor Laura Kurgen and the studio she taught was Data Visualization. I bought this book to help me further my knowledge in data visualization, and the graphics are rich and amazing. As an architecture student, I am specifically looking to create beautiful and rich diagrams. This book is geared more towards designers such as graphic designers and architects and not for computer scientists or for those who are more interested in the mathematical computation and data analysis rather than the design of the visualizations.

This book versus Data Flow

This book was a more thinner but more collegiate versus of the Data Flow book. I prefer the Data Flow book. That one had more examples. This one was a bit more nerdy, more Tufte without being inspirational. For infographics I recommend Tufte books and Data Flow over this one. But this book has a great overview.

But a big Lima fan, I look forward to all his works.

A life lived well

This is a fascinating and wonderful book about the life of a living wisewoman. Cassandra tells us about her life and how she became a witch, and how it changed her life for the better. She has the courage to show us her early life and the physical and emotional hardship she lived through as a child. But she also shows us how that courage has led her to become a woman with practical knowledge and wisdom which has served her well.

I learned a lot about the life and practice of a true wisewoman and what being a witch really entails. It is far from the fluff and fantasy that is found in so many books out there, and it isn't something that is just a fad for the moment. It is a total way of life and thought that takes a lot of work and commitment. It also entails having a connection with one's community and a willingness to use the magic for others as well as for oneself.

Anyone who is interested in the old folk ways and in traditional witchcraft will find this book very interesting.

I do hope Cassandra will write another book, perhaps one for those who would like to learn about the craft but don't have access to a teacher. There is so much to learn and so little real information beyond the usual pop witchcraft books that flood the market.

The life and times of a village witch...

The first thing thing that grabbed me was the cover of the book: interesting imagery, vivid colors, the book cover material draws you into the world of what you're about to read about. The book itself- the author starts by sharing some early personal experiences which molded her and helped her become what she is and how comfortable she is being who she is. She explains her approach to working magick and how she does what she does. She gives you the benefit of her experience to show what worked for her, what didn't and why. She goes into what its like to be a village witch and the intricacies of that in the modern world. She writes well making the material interesting and is very personable.
She gives examples of what her work entails, the different kinds of jobs, the people she meets in the course of her work. There are some lovely illustrations in the book and some personal photos followed at the end of book by Cunning lore, some charms, some herb lore, rituals and chants. Not what I expected, but powerful nonetheless!

Definitely a powerful story of triumph in the face of adversity. I didn't quite know what to expect when I purchased this book, but found myself incredibly curious upon seeing Cassandra Latham-Jones's name, being very fond of her. This book exists to answer the commonly asked question: "What lead you to become a Village Witch?" It answers this question and more. The book itself makes for a very invigorating and captivating, albeit a bit dry, read. Nevertheless, I finished it in a matter of about six hours. I couldn't put it down.
