Long answers less overwhelming on flash cards

When it comes to definitions, identifying and other long answers, it's a lot easier to read them and take them in in small parts. That's why these flash cards are so great. They go through the writing process, children's literature and so much more in chunks, breaking things down one card at a time. That information, even though some of it seems long, is easier to take in when it's ONLY one thing at a time. Line all of that into a big book and space it out between other things that you don't REALLY need to know and it's hugely overwhelming. These flash cards are surmountable because they are small and you can take them with you anywhere. You can sit and study them for hours at a time, or you can take them with you and get in a few cards here and there as you go about your day. Whatever way you choose to study, these flash cards can be a huge help.

Early Childhood MTEL flashcards

The flash cards are a very good reference. You can pick and choose which flash cards to take with you, as it comes as a full sheet of heavy weight paper that has perforations that you rip to make flash cards if you choose to do so (each page has 6 flash cards on it). Additionally, I believe it contains a lot of information that never will be covered on the exam. I give it a 3 star rating.

Not a lesson based manual!!!

I am always reluctant about buying manuals because whether the author is a good teacher, or just knows the subject front to back are always two different things. In the case of the SW 2011 Assemblies bible, I can see that Matt Lombard knows Solidworks very well, but for the student who learns by processes, like outlined lessons, this book is pretty useless. For example, imagine being told how to draw a carburetor in SW, but without any specific dimensions, or images showing what is going on with the interface. It's like being talked through heart surgery, and impractical. This book is not for somebody that isn't looking to improve upon years of SW assembly experience, and even then, it may not be a practical desk reference tool. I got lost in the 600 pages of small print easily without lessons showing how to use the information in practice. There are also lots of files in the folders on the cd, but very few lessons to use those files, and then the lessons that do require files from the cd outline paths that are just wrong. Also, I found the few lessons included very difficult to follow, and lacking in images, and instructions to make the process fluid. I will look into returning this manual, and wouldn't suggest it to anybody that needs to know something like actually building up a model and applying all the variations of the different mates, as opposed to reducing rebuild errors, memory usage, and mate failures. These things seem of very little importance if you can't correctly build an assembly in the first place.

Update - new version of the book is available with missing pages included.

UPDATE 2/6/12: I just received a new copy of Solidworks 2011 Assemblies Bible with the missing pages included. Wiley Publishing has printed a corrected version of the book and will send a replacement copy to those that purchased the defective version. You have to tear off the front and back covers of the book and mail them to:

Include a letter explaining the situation and requesting a replacement copy. It took a couple of weeks to get the new copy.
I assume new books purchased now will be the corrected version.

Just discovered this book is missing pages 451 - 498, which includes most of the Master Modeling chapter and all of the Weldments chapter. Searching online, I found an entry on Matt Lombard's site acknowledging the missing pages are a problem (not just my copy), but that he can't help. I haven't found anything on Wiley's site to indicate they are admitting the problem or doing anything to fix it.

I would hold off purchasing this book until there is some indication that Wiley has fixed the problem and corrected versions are available. I have an inquiry pending with Wiley and will update this review if I find out anything more.

Typical of the E&E series, maybe not as good

I live by the E&E series for lawschool, they really are great simple way to understand a subject broadly and provide Q&A which helps you focus in on what is important to learn. This fed tax one was not as good as civ pro, contracts, or criminal procedure that I've also been using. It could be because tax law changes so frequently and there are 3 editors which make the organization and flow jarring at times. Still help for the Q&A section.
