About the Author
Elaine Marmel is President of Marmel Enterprises, LLC, an organization that specializes in technical writing and software training. Elaine has an MBA from Cornell University and worked on projects to build financial management systems for New York City and Washington, D.C. This prior experience provided the foundation for Marmel Enterprises, LLC to help small businesses implement computerized accounting systems.
Elaine left her native Chicago for the warmer climes of Arizona (by way of Cincinnati, OH; Jerusalem, Israel; Ithaca, NY; Washington, D.C., and Tampa, FL) where she basks in the sun with her PC and her dog Josh and her cats, Cato, Watson, and Buddy, and sings barbershop harmony with the 2006 International Championship Scottsdale Chorus.
Elaine spends most of her time writing; she has authored and co-authored more than 30 books about Microsoft Project, QuickBooks, Peachtree, Quicken for Windows, Quicken for DOS, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word for Windows, Microsoft Word for the Mac, Windows 98, 1-2-3 for Windows, and Lotus Notes. Only book I could find covering Project Sever (EPM)

Over the years Marmel has always delivered a solid product on Microsoft Project. As far as I know, it is the only book on the market right now that has anything related to Project Server. Pretty amazing when you figure Project Server has been out for about 5 months. I see the QUE book on MS Project just came out, and I could be wrong but I didn't see any mention of Project Server in the table of contents. Seems everyone either missed the boat or is pretty late to market on this topic. As I see it, MS Project hasn't changed that much in 10 years so buying a book that doesn't address the enterprise doesn't make a lot of sense unless you are new to Microsoft Project. Great book!

I bought this book mainly for new features in 2007 MS Project. The book is very detailed and serves well for experts and beginners alike. I am quite happy with my purchase. I still have to explore the software provided on the attached CD. One thing it did not come with is 2007 MS project trial software.

Last thought: I wish these came like audio books with flash presentation. They can be in the $200 price range

Terrific suspense/thriller!

I order this book after reading a rave review and read it in 2 sittings (even though it's 360 pages), which is a good indication of what a page turner it is. I looked up the author and found out this is his first novel, but was not surprised to learn he is a successful screenwriter. The book is very 'cinematic,' a super-fast read, and I wouldn't be surprised if this book ended up as a Hollywood film some day.

The book is structured by intercutting between various stories that converge. It's about a son (ex-LAPD) who investigates the disappearance of his intellectual but emothionally distant father (a philosophy professor - hence the title!). Over the course of the investigation, the father and son come to learn about each other. That might make it sound like a drama, but the story is really a page-turner suspense/mystery.

Anyway, there are lots of great twists to the story, so that's all I will say. But I hope the author writes another book.

If this book doesn't become a movie something is terribly wrong; it is so visual and compelling

I am not a big reader, but this book came alive to me. It is so suspenseful, thrilling, with engaging characters, plot twists and more, much more. I wanted to see how it was going to end but I did not want it to end. It grabs you and takes you on a delirious journey. I just could not put it down. If this book doesn't become a movie something is terribly wrong; it is so visual and compelling. Just when I thought I had it figured out, along comes a well thought out twist and I go along on another ride. It is fast paced, masterfully written and a true page turner. I read it on an airplane and was never aware of the time as we landed. I consider it a must read.

While the Naked Philosopher is a suspenseful detective novel, with great characters and settings and more than enough twists and turns for the aficianado, it also draws on a deep emotional reservoir in the form of a complex and unresolved relationship between father and son. The father in question is a famous philosophy professor, Joseph Pearl, who's broken a two year silence with his ex-LAPD detective son, Jack, using as an excuse a philosophy conference being held in L.A. When Joseph disappears without warning, Jack sets out to find him, and, in the process, uncovers a great deal he didn't expect about his father, himself, his father's women, and the ideas and rivalries that fuel the world of contemporary philosophy.

The Naked Philosopher is a page turner with a brain. Do yourself a favor and read it.

Back and forth.

I go back and forth on this series. I enjoyed it. I really did. I also enjoyed the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evonovich, which is just so darn similar to this one. This author has an obvious talent for the written word. It's just a shame that talent doesn't include coming up with an original storyline as well. Addison = Stephanie. Rosemary = Lula. Aunt Scarlet = grandma Maziur. Savage = Ranger. Nick = Morelli. Joyce = Victoria. Dickie = Greg. Etc... this is such a blatant rip off that I'm surprised this author isn't being sued for copyright infringement. Now, just on its own, this series has consistency issues. What happened to Addison's house? How is Nick's Grandfather still alive? Is there a book missing? Who is the Romeo Bandit? I'm thinking maybe that book had to be pulled because of the similarities to Stephanie Plum also having a case that involved a nudist club?? Yeah... im not impressed and I won't be reading any more from this Author. Evonovich does it better and this "Author" is a fraud.

Disappointed.

I love this series and am always anticipating the next release, but this one left me feeling unfulfilled. I was disappointed that Nick and Savage barely made an appearance. Scarlett and Rosemarie are ok, but their interactions do not compare with Addison and the men in her life. Also, this book was entirely too short for the price. I feel like Hart had to stay on time and totally rushed the ending. The case went from nowhere to solved in like the last 20% of the book. Although I love this series, I think I will read a few reviews before buying the next one.

I was really looking forward to this book but was very disappointed how short it was and how much it cost. I would have like to read more about Savage and Nick. I loved the ending but felt it was rushed and wished the book went on at least another week before it actually ended. I love Scarlet and had some laughs but just felt the book was rushed. I hope the next book is longer and the price more appropriate. Still love the series and the author and looking forward to more books from her.

Visit the hidden realms beneath us as Jane Price gives us a front seat view to everything out mind’s eye has only dreamed to see. We go deep inside the earth passing though old mines no longer in use. We see fossils of various sizes and centuries. Our breath is taken by the beauty of ancient Egypt and the history everywhere the eye looks.
We wander into an underground city which once held a population of 30,000. It is incredible and difficult to wrap my mind around. If not for the photographs, I would be having trouble believing many sites explored.
These illustrations reveal the layers and depth of the earth. It makes me wonder just how deep will man go? How deep can they go? What secrets are left to unfold? I fo one, do not believe we have them all. I think we’ve only touched the very tip on the imagined iceberg.

What a Different and Fun Book

Truly engaging book for kids AND adults. The book is well made, the pictures very stimulating. My sons spend a lot of time poring over the details in the drawing. It's true, a picture IS worth a thousand words, and the kids get a lot of information just by looking, observing the drawings. This is not just a picture book however, there is useful text to go along with the depictions. I borrowed this book from the library but am so in love with it, I am now ordering it online. Dolman's thoughts in Astropolitik should be essential reading for anyone interested in space power and its relationship to the security of freedom, democracy and the United States in the 21st century. This book will definitely be required reading for military space leaders in the future, and should be read by every space leader or enthusaist today be they from the military, civil, or commercial sectors. Realist politics and unilateral action may be disheartening to some, and many may be opposed to Dolman's 'advice' at the end, but the logic and arguments he presents are sound and must be addressed by any potential opposition.
In all, Astropolitik will become a classic of space power theory.

Essential Basic Reference

In spite of its age, this book continues to be an essential basic reference on the subject. Well organized and clearly written, the authors stated goal was "to present the fundamentals of groundwater hydrology in a manner understandable to [a wide variety of students and professionals]." If I were suddenly called to work in a foreign country and could only take one book, this would be the one. A slight drawback is the use of metric units throughout, perhaps because the book was expected to be translated into a number of foreign languages. This is the completely rewritten second edition of the original edition published in 1959. The first edition of this book was probably the first fundamental textbook on the subject. Basic information or equations that are not in Todd, usually can be found in "Groundwater" by Freeze and Cherry (John Cherry was a student of Todd's).

3rd edition is up-to-date

The reviews written in 2000 and 2001 referred to the 2nd edition. The 3rd edition, published in 2004, is now up-to-date.

The 3rd edition includes information on modern groundwater modeling methods (including the Modflow model), more coverage of chemical contamination in groundwater, and includes both U.S. and SI units in the examples.

very good text but poor publishing

This is a well-written, comprehensive text. However, the publisher does a disservice to readers and authors. The latter wisely utilize diagrams and pictures to illustrate important concepts; however, many of these are indecipherably rendered by poor-quality gray shading. Specific examples: Fig 1.5.3, Fig 1.5.5,Fig 9.8.2, Fig 13.2.10, etc etc. Also, the lost art of indexing is exemplified in this book; for example, "hydraulic head" (arguably the most important topical term, one used repeatedly throughout the text) is not listed.

I appreciate the publishers's attempts to keep costs down, at least, up until the point that fundamental purposes become crossed.
